Horgony Family

Horgony Family

Horgony is an outdoor furniture family I designed for the BudapART student design competition initiated by Market Építő Zrt. My aim was to balance a restrained architectural character with durability, maintainability and production-aware detailing.

I developed Horgony in response to a competition brief calling for an innovative and sustainable exposed-concrete furniture family for the public spaces of BudaPart. Instead of treating each object as an isolated product, I designed them as parts of a coherent system, connected through shared proportions, materials and construction principles. The family includes planters in three sizes, a bench, a modular bicycle and scooter rack, a litter bin with an integrated cigarette receptacle, and a dedicated dog-waste bin. I adapted the functional details to the specific requirements of each element. The planters incorporate drainage openings and forklift-accessible bases, while the bench uses replaceable WPC components and concealed connections. The waste units contain removable internal frames to support easier servicing and maintenance. As this was a solo project, I was responsible for the complete design process, including concept development, product design, 3D modelling, visualisation and technical documentation. I developed dimensioned drawings, sections, formwork studies, preliminary reinforcement layouts, material specifications, and calculations of concrete volume and component weight. I selected high-performance concrete, stainless steel, aluminium and WPC to create a durable material system suitable for intensive outdoor use. With Horgony, I aimed to create a recognisable yet understated furniture family that could integrate naturally into BudaPart’s contemporary architectural environment.
